Matrix Music, run by Primoz Pecovnik, was established in 1994 as the first electronic record label in Eastern Europe as a vinyl-only label, relasing local talent such as, Umek, Random Logic, Torul Valentino Kanzyani etc. In the early 00s, the label moved on to release mix-CD by artists of worldwide renown such as Fila Brazillia, DJ Rush, Ben Sims and others as well as licensing releases by international dance luminaries such as Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, Deep Dish, Fila Brazillia, etc.

The label has gradually evolved into the leading regional music distributor, now representing and distributing the biggest music label in the world – UNIVERSAL – as well as some of the most respected independent labels on the planet: BEGGARS BANQUET, DOMINO, EPITAPH, NUCLEAR BLAST, K7, CRAMMED, EDEL, NINJA TUNE, WARP, WORLD CIRCUIT, NAXOS, HYPERDUB, GLITTERBEAT, DEMON, CHERRY RED, ACE, SPEAKERS CORNER, SOUL JAZZ, SNAPPER, MASCOT, CITY SLANG and many others. The company’s key accounts include wholesellers, independent stores, chainstores, and online retailers.

In 2002, the company decided to relaunch its in-house label – as Matrix Music Arhiv – so its major goal is to dig out sought-after cult albums from the 80s and 90s – mainly by regional artists with international appeal. The first releases include re-released albums by KARLOWY VARY, BORGHESIA, VIDEOSEX and BEOGRAD.
